Some seasons feel busy and productive. Others feel slower, more reflective, or filled with unexpected interruptions. No matter the season, one thing remains true: momentum is difficult to maintain when boundaries are missing.

As solopreneurs and small business owners, it’s easy to say yes to one more project, one more meeting, one more favor, or one more favor (ok occasionally). Before long, the very things that help us grow are competing with the time and energy we need to do our best work.
The good news? Boundaries aren’t barriers. They’re guideposts that help keep us moving in the direction we want to go and how to achieve our goals.
Here are a few ways to protect your momentum–while staying true to your clients, colleagues, family, friends, and yourself (not necessarily in that order 😊):
Know What Matters Most
When you’re clear about your priorities, it’s easier to recognize what deserves your time and what doesn’t. Not every opportunity is the right opportunity. Take the time to consider the cost of taking or not taking that assignment.
Communicate Clearly
The audience aren’t mind readers. Clear expectations and honest communication help prevent misunderstandings and protect your time, their time and the quality product or service you provide.
Practice the Power of “No”
Saying no isn’t selfish. Sometimes saying no to one thing is exactly what allows you to say yes to what matters most. I’ve become more consistent with not toeing the line and saying no.
Be Consistent
Boundaries work best when they’re practiced consistently. The more consistent you are, the easier they become for both you and others to respect. It takes some effort to make this permanent.
Give Yourself Permission to Adjust
Just like the seasons change, so do our needs. Revisit your boundaries from time to time and make adjustments that support where you are now.
Setting boundaries isn’t about creating distance. It’s about creating space—space for focus, creativity, rest, and the work that matters most. It works in the interest of everyone involved.
Your momentum isn’t saying yes to everything. It’s about continuing to move forward without losing yourself along the way. ☀️We got this!!
Something About Nothing
It’s Official, I’m a Bougie Tea Drinker 😎 😲
Growing up in Jamaica, most of the tea I drank came from a plant or tree somewhere in the yard. Yes, we had the packaged stuff too, but I remember enjoying the freshly picked leaves the most.

Very fast forward to now… the good stuff isn’t exactly “cheap,” but it’s hovering somewhere around “not too expensive.” 😄 These days, I look for whole leaves, great flavor—with or without honey and/or lemon—and absolutely no “tea leaf dust.”
Goodbye, Celestial Seasonings. You were my favorite, but you’ve joined the crowd… and that’s just not gonna work for me. 😏
A few of my favorites, without naming brands: green, black, and white teas (not blended), rooibos, and—at the very top of the list—blooming teas. 🌸🍵 Joshua was fascinated with that last one and that’s another story for some other time.
So, how about you? Are you an “any ole tea will do” person, or are you a little bougie about your tea too? 🍵😁
I would love to hear what you have to say.
